Blaine Festival

Sunday, June 24—Blaine Folk Music Festival (3rd annual of the renewed festival). Many wonderful performers; very cheap admission $6 Adult $3 Seniors. Perhaps there will be a future “big name” star. Perhaps Ms. Hopkins shown in the RR Star photo. Let’s hope she does not change her name so we all remember her and her big start at Blaine.

July 2012- 006July 2012- 002

Saturday, June 30—Candlewick Lake’s Fourth of July Parade.  The parade route was almost half of the length of Candlewick Drive—from Savannah Oaks Golf course to the Lake Meeting House.  It was hot and at times difficult to walk at the pace which the floats moved.  Lots and lots of candy and there were no kids complaining about the heat.

Sunday, July 1—Belvidere’s Heritage Days.  A worship service at the Community Building in the morning and a parade at 4:00.  The heat was equal to Saturday’s, The waking pace at the parade was a little slower and crowds very large.  Oh yes—we did not run out of candy at either parade.

Board Meeting of June 20

015_thumb6

I attended last night's county board meeting. Here are a few things you may wish to know and perhaps they will not be picked up by the news media.

1. Approximately $40,000 of bids were accepted by the board to repair the bell tower at the court house. The $40k is well below what was first estimated.

2. A citizen who complained at the zoning commission regarding the "smell" from the special use, nursery in Garden Prairie also spoke at the county board. It appears that the nursery's mulching operations has several violations of IEPA etc. --county enforcement of some of the zoning was questioned by the citizen.

3. A change to the liquor license for Timber Point allowing serving alcohol before 11:00 on Sundays was defeated. Apparently Swan Lake in Poplar Grove has a 9:00 AM start and TP wanted the same or better.

4. A number of appointments were approved in mass, including Mr. Sisson of the Health Department, a very controversial reappointment three years ago because of the health departments payment of alcoholic drinks for interviewees/health board members.

5. Not disclosed at the meeting per se--Mr. Terrinoni told me that at the July 5, 6:00 PM meeting of the health subcommittee he will be presenting answers to the questions raised by the board members regarding the mulch fire in May, 2012.

---If you wish more information regarding the fire or what questions are being asked by board members go to these postings on my “watchdog blog” :  http://www.boonecountywatchdog.blogspot.com/2012/06/mulch-fire.html and http://boonecountywatchdog.blogspot.com/2012/06/poplar-grove-to-bill-three-for-water.html

It is time to be no longer a visitor at the County Administration Building but to have a seat at the table.  With your help, (prayers) and money perhaps that can happen.

The first order of business is for me to understand your needs and expectations.  Please feel free to write or call me:   bpysson@gmail.com or 544-5115.  I hope to speak to many of you in the near future.
